Declaration of Independence of the 13 United States of America of 1776

Adopted on July 4, 1776 by the United States of America, the Declaration of Independence is one of the most well-known and important American History documents. Signed by 56 delegates to the Continental Congress, the “Declaration of Independence” declared that the thirteen (original) colonies considered themselves sovereign states and no longer part of or under the jurisdiction of Great Britain. Written by Thomas Jefferson, the Declaration explained in detail why the people of the United States of America felt the need to revolt against the British rule.
