Claude Monet’s “Argenteuil” depicts red and white sailboats floating by a dock on the river Seine in France. On an overcast day near the town Argenteuil, this painting mixes the moss and water lilies floating on the water with the boats’ reflections to create a swirling mix of colors. Between 1872 and 1876, Monet resided in Argenteuil, France. During this time, other impressionistic contemporaries, including Manet, Sisley and Renoir, came to visit the small town. It was during the time spent in this tiny town along the Seine that Monet painted some of his most characteristic paintings. Included among those is “Argenteuil.” Surrounded by magical shimmering light, this hazy harbor relaxes and imbues viewers with a sense of peace. Including both swirling blues and stunning golden red hues, “Argenteuil” can be complimented by a gold or silver frame.
