When we think of our lives we think in decades or generations, and we memorialize them in art, over the decades and the wall art it has inspired. Over the decades we have seen many memorable things happen, good and bad, world wars, moon landings and so on. Some are more soft, some harder, but all memorable in their own way.
Fairs and carnivals, what is more iconic than that, “Seattle World's Fair 1962 I” by Lantern Press, is a great example of one of those truly memorable times, when the world and America was in its economical heyday. The skylights beaming over the tower with the balloons and carnival atmosphere below. A timeless piece that had endeared the test of time.
In the sixties we saw the Pittsburgh Pirates win in George Silk's “World Series, Pittsburgh 1960” in the photo art, over the decade of 1960, you can see the jubilation on the faces of the fans and the smoke from all the fireworks raft into the air in a great celebration of this tough blue collar city. What better way to remember the decade then on the shoulders of this steel city?
The American flag, a symbol of freedom and everlasting hope and prosperity. An icon so great as the American flag to show art, decades wall art in Jasper John's “Flag, 1954” you see the great pains taken by this wonderful artist to recreate a well flown flag in its weathered look and stone serenity.
