Heighten Low Ceilings

In a room with low ceilings, try to use a darker floor covering and a lighter color for both the walls and ceiling. This will bring the eye upward and make the room seem more open. Another suggestion is to use artwork with strong vertical lines to heighten the ceilings. It is best to use artwork in the portrait format; that is use pieces that are taller than they are wide.
