How did you get a career as an artist?

Even during the time that I serviced a diversified high-end clientele in my entertainment CPA practice in Beverly Hills, CA as a Business Manager and Certified Public Accountant, I maintained a large photography studio and actively pursued photography clients until photography eventually occupied the majority of my professional time. The major breakthrough for me (even though I loved photography) was the advent of the era of being able to create photo-based digital art on the computer. My world experienced an exciting change once I dedicated my career to computer generated artwork using many of my photographs in combination to enhance, manipulate, and create my imagery.

Does the place you live have an effect on your art?

Absolutely! Sedona is a mecca for artists. The sheer beauty of the red rock landscapes is breathtaking to say the least. The positive energy of Sedona inspires me to create and use my artistic talents to the fullest.

What is your biggest inspiration for art?

I especially like surrealism and have been inspired by artists such as Salvador Dali. I find inspiration in traveling the world. I am constantly on a journey of artistic discovery. It is still an amazingly intense process for me. I can't wait to go on to the next art project creating even more imagery.

What did you do before dedicating your life to art?

I have been a professional photographer/artist since the late 1970's. Prior to that, I received a college degree in Business Administration (accounting) from the University of California at Northridge. Immediately after college, I became a Certified Public Accountant. Prior to that, I received a degree in commercial art and subsequently attended the Los Angeles Art Center of Design, Otis Art Institute, and UCLA in Los Angeles, California to study art. I was very involved as a painter and exhibited my oil paintings in many places in Southern California. I also attended Officers Candidate School, served in United States Army as an officer and did a tour of duty in Viet Nam in 1968.

What is the one thing about you that most people don't know?

I have Screen Actors Guild card and in the past, I have been cast in several feature films.

If you were a new addition to the crayon box, what would your color name be and why?

"Visual Intensity". I see the world that way and color it with much visual intensity everywhere that I go.

What art style do you classify your art as and why?

I have literally created my own genre. Photography for me is way too limited in terms of its imitative capabilities for capturing even what exists in the world. My artwork is considered fine art photography based photo-illustration. I use computer painting, enhancement software, and techniques to create different artwork in which design, light, and colors are manipulated, and shapes are reinterpreted to explore visual possibilities. Once I realized that the camera, while instrumental in my artwork, is actually just a tool in the creative process, my artwork was then driven to a new and exciting fulfilling level (realism, surrealism, and abstract).

What styles have you tried? Which is your favorite?

I have photographed landscapes, wildlife, models, commercial products, created a multitude of advertising and magazine work and magazine covers etc. My favorite by far is creating fine art photography based photo illustrations using a multitude of combined imagery to create new environments e.g. photo illustrations, fine art digital painting, abstract art, vintage cars, etc. I have a particular passion for surrealism as I have been fortunate to fully develop over the years the ability to create and render imagery that otherwise would remain only in my mind.
