Georgia Eider artwork

Georgia Eider

Georgia Eider was born in beautiful Vancouver on the west coast of Canada. She attended Emily Carr College of Art and Design in Vancouver as well. Eider's art career began around 1984. She worked as an art teacher for a short time, and it launched into an art career very quickly. She began painting textiles and sold her creations to stores and craft markets, which is something that she still does today. In Eider's artwork, she paints on canvas with acrylic paint and creates surface designs on fabric with dyes as well. Her recent creations include working in clay and making sculpture with polymer clay. When asked what her biggest advice for aspiring and uprising artists is, Eider answered "Be prepared to do the work."
"What I enjoy most about being an artist is losing myself in the work."

How can you use a pencil other than drawing or writing?

Playing fetch with my dogs and scratching my back are super good uses for pencils.

What gets you in a creative zone?

I don't really have any rituals or things that get me into the creative zone. I find that just stepping into the studio starts the process, sometimes it takes a long time to get into the creative zone, it might not come easily, there might be some procrastinating that happens, avoidance behaviors like making another cup of coffee, doing some house cleaning, surfing the net, anything to avoid the pain of not feeling it. But really the only thing that is sure to get me in the flow is to keep at it, put my dues in, work it out, try again, start over, just keep at it. Sometimes it comes very quickly and paintings seem to paint themselves, other times it is painfully slow and difficult.

What art pieces (if any) do you have on your walls?

One of my paintings called Keya's Bouquet, a bold floral named after my beautiful and sweet daughter-in-law. A lovely portrait of a black lab that looks so much like my dog Georgia when she was younger. An amazing deer skull with antlers my husband found while out hiking.

How would you describe the style of the art you create?

Hmm... eclectic, I guess, I'm always searching for new ways of expression.

What is your favorite piece you've created so far?

I don't really have an all time favorite, I like different piece at different times. Usually it is the last successful piece I've finished that I'm most fond of.

How do you know when a piece you're working on is done?

I have tended to overwork pieces in the past, so I'm really sensitive to when I'm finished. If I'm not sure, I leave it for a day or two or a week or more, then I go back and take a look at it. If it is finished it is really obvious.

What is one thing about you that most people don't know?

I love thrift shopping!

If you were a new addition to the crayon box, what would your color name be and why?

"Delicious" I like that word when applied to color

What are some of your favorite hobbies aside from art?

Working in my garden creating with nature.

If you were an art piece, what are 3 styles would you be in? Why?

Eclectic cause I'm a little of this and a little of that! Loose abstraction because I've been accused of being unconventional and free wheeling! Romantic Landscape because I'm a sucker for romance and I love the natural world and natural things.
