Erin Ashley

Erin Ashley is a talented artist who did not always know she wanted to be one. Before becoming an artist, she worked many other diverse jobs including fashion modeling in NYC, acting, professional photography and she even owned a model and talent agency. Erin began painting for fun and found that she had a natural love for the arts. Erin's paintings became more known when she started entering her art into outdoor art festivals. Aside from art, Erin enjoys yoga, traveling, bike rides, and she loves spending time with her family. Erin believes that being an artist gives her the freedom to express her self and her creative side. It also gives her the opportunity to share it with the world.

What did you do before devoting your life to art?

Before I was an artist I worked as a fashion model in NYC, dabbled in some acting gigs, owned my own model and talent agency and worked as a professional photographer for many years.

How did you get a career as an artist?

This career as an artist just came to me out of nowhere. Never had any training in the arts and never thought about being a painter. One day I decided I would try painting for fun and found myself really intrigued and enjoying it so much that I could not stop painting! I worked at it daily canvas after canvas- it just felt right. Before I even considered doing art as a career I had to show the public my work. I entered an outdoor art festival and was so nervous! I hadn't showed anyone my art before so was not sure what to expect but to my surprise I sold 8 paintings in the first hour of the show that day. That was the start of it all.

What is your advice for uprising artists?

God has blessed all of us with a talent if you truly feel that art is what you are meant to do than you must work hard at it all the time and never give up. You may feel discouraged at times you may even start to question yourself but if you believe in your work and have the passion than YOU CAN make it happen. I know that my faith in God has helped and strengthened me - for he is in total control you just need to keep at it and believe.

What are some of your favorite hobbies?

When I am not painting I love spending time with my family, hot yoga, bike rides, traveling, sitting on the beach, romantic dinners with my husband, good wine and walking my dog Toby.

What do you enjoy most about being an artist?

What I enjoy most about being an artist is the freedom to express myself to share my creations with others. When I have clients say to me how my work has touched them, Inspired them and made their homes feel like a home that is what I love most about being an artist.

What is one thing about you that most people don't know?

I once worked as a case girl model on the popular game show "Deal or No Deal" with Howie Mandel.

What is your biggest inspiration for art?

Inspiration comes to me in so many different ways. I could literally be driving down the highway and get so consumed with inspiration! Old beat up dumpster trucks filled with scratches and layers of chipped paint with so many beautiful colors coming through. Old movies, colorful clothing, being outdoors. Being an artist really makes you see things in a different just take a moment and really look around. Its all here for us we just need to tune into it.
