Jill O’Flannery was born in Northern California. She loved art from a young age and could spend most of her free time working on her art. Growing up in the Sacramento Valley, her early creative encouragement came from her father, who was also a painter. He’s the one who stirred her already inventive nature as a child. Today, her goal is to portray a sense of strength, beauty, and balance through her posters, art and prints. Jill’s pieces of art usually have strikingly unique faces that are frozen in a perfectly captured moment. She plays with color and texture to balance each composition and add to it some warmth and beauty. She uses the sometimes unconventional perspective of a setting within a background landscape or a room to create a mood that is intriguingly dimensional. Her images evoke a sense of tranquility, a contemplative mood, and timelessness. Her curious viewers get so absorbed that they often find themselves imagining that they too play a role in producing her images.
It is through careful combination of materials and compositional elements that she achieves a sense of balance, strength, and beauty in her artwork. From a solitary young maiden playing her mandolin on the waterfront to period pieces of traditional ballroom scenes, Jill is capable of portraying the charisma of both the royalty and working class of the times with such an appeal that those who view her art can instantly feel the character within the personalities that she renders. Jill enjoys a very intimate creative process where she manipulates the materials as she handles them in a creative way.
