Marc Catesby (Born in 1679) was born in England. He left his home country in 1712 to study flora and fauna in America. This is where he remained for the seven years that followed. He returned to England at the age of 47 after a second visit to America so that he could engrave the plates of his work titled The Natural History of the Bahama Islands, Florida and Carolina, illustrated with plates of animals, birds, fish and plants. The huge success of his work made him to be elected a Fellow of the Royal Society. Catesby varied his subjects to increase the collectability of his art, and he became a great success. At any moment he could be seen painting mostly things that inspired him.

He used a great depth of field in his work, and his art conveyed a sense of solitude and tranquility by isolating the viewer from the background. He reinforced this through by the use of special techniques in the background and in the foreground. The popularity of his art has been due to the fact that they can be used to decorate any space. Within a short time after he started to work as a full time artist, Catesby build a huge following of loyal fans that were always looking forward for his new pieces of art;. His keenness to detail made his art to be very popular then and even today. He hoped that his viewers could have an open mind and interpret correctly the intended message in his art, avoiding any formed opinions. Catesby died in 1749.
