Huntington Witherill (Born on 1949) is an American artist who was born in New York. In 1953, he moved together with his family to California, where he underwent his studies and began following classical music classes. Witherill mainly wanted to become a pianist for concerts. He entered college in 1968 to major in music, but soon after his interest switched to two dimensional design. It’s this change of interest that led him to a successful career in fine art with a focus on photography, beginning 1970. He studied photography from famous teachers like Ansel Adams, Wynn Bullock, Steve Crouch and Al Weber. Witherill’s artwork pieces have been displayed in over a hundred exhibitions, galleries and museums since 1975. He creates his works using a variety of mediums and artistic styles and are availed in both color and black and white. His creative pieces display different subjects, including classic landscapes, studies of pop-art, botanical still-life, urban architecture, abstracts, and digital imaging as his art pieces.

Witherill has also taught at many institutions since 1975, including University of California, the Friends of Photography, Center for Photographic Art, Oklahoma Arts Institute, and Ansel Adams Gallery. His photographs were the subjects of three hardcover monographs that won awards, namely, Orchestrating Icons (2000), Botanical Dances (2001), and Photo Synthesis (2010). In 1999, Witherill received “Artist of the Year” award conferred by the Center for Photographic Art, Carmel, California. His creative pieces can be found in a number of private and public collections Fundacióe Van Gogh d’Arles, Arles, France; Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, MA; Santa Barbara Museum of Art, Santa Barbara, CA, and more. Witherill is currently a resident of Monterey Peninsula, Central California.
