Oscar Ortiz (Born in 1964) was born in Manhattan, New York, USA. He has been painting and selling his pieces for more than 10 years. He has moved into licensing his art and selling prints internationally. Ortiz’s paintings are executed in different mediums such as colored pencils, oil, casein, acrylics, alkyd, inks and mixed media. His paintings have graced magazines, posters, calendars, CD’s, and others. He is celebrated and sought after throughout the world for his controlled but bright Caribbean colors. “Energetic”, “peaceful” “happy”, and “exciting”, are common adjectives his collectors use when describing his artwork.
UNESCO and other similar organizations have used his images for several of their projects. Among his most recent projects are illustrating “The Poet Upstairs”, an award winning children book, and a text book for National Geographic Learning.

Whether abroad or at home, Ortiz wakes up early and drinks fresh brewed black coffee as his favorite method of staying rooted with his Puerto Rican upbringing. Ortiz says with absolute honesty that what crosses his mind every time he stares at a blank canvas is to come up with something interesting, beautiful, and colorful. Something eye catching, and can challenge him; something to make him smile. In the 1970s when he was still young, he was often requested by his teachers to do some projects in art for the school. Ortiz used to spend several hours creating illustrations to be used as teaching aids. He enjoyed making others happy through his drawings and paintings and that was what satisfied him the most.
