Originally trained as a youth worker, Jane Fox is an experienced artist and arts facilitator and currently works in Brighton alongside the Rocket Artists. Periodically, she also collaborates with fellow artist Tony Gammidge as Fox&Gammidge. In 1985 she graduated in visual art and sound from Brighton Polytechnic, and since then she has developed an arts practice that embraces a wide range of mixed media (moving image, installation, print, and drawing) with inter-connected activities including artist led collaborations, projects and solo work for exhibition. Working in several projects has led her through night walks in a Finnish forest, fish slapping festivals, self-taught musicianship, midnight processions, celebratory cake making, experiments with crushed coal and salt, drawing from memory, non-sense hymns, and more. Jane was in the Carnival Collective, Marine Girls and, founded Armadilloh! Arts along with Maria Tribe.
In 2003, she spent a whole year in Cornwall at Falmouth College of Art developing her work on the Contemporary Visual Art M.A. She has exhibited widely in the South West, South East, and France. She worked out of Maze Studios in Brighton from 1989-2009. Jane is a Senior Lecturer on Visual and Performance Art (B.A. Hons) and M.A., and is a member of Phoenix, Inkspot Press and Brighton. She practices art at the University of Brighton. Jane has several pieces of artwork to her name. She lets forms and colors guide her to her finished work. Today her work is loved by many collectors some of whom have remarked that she captures the essence of her subjects.
