Eric Carbrey currently lives with his lovely wife of eight years in Wichita Kansas along with three of the finest dogs ever produced in Kansas. He’s a graduate of Wichita State University where he spent his time studying geology and painting. He likes to paint big, some of his recent works are on large 8ft x 4ft wood panels. Carbrey creates within a few parameters; in some of his paintings he tries to create space, while in some, he tries to take it away. Yet in other paintings Carbrey tries to create simplicity with complexity, and in others complexity with simplicity. Carbrey’s art basically deals with exploration of space, shape and color. When Carbrey paints he tries to lose himself in his work trying to create from perception and hopes to create something that those who view his art could also get lost in.

He says that he paints to create spaces that are tranquil and a place to stare at. Color, space and shape all play a role in his paintings and they all play off of each other creating an alliance between chaos and calm in the artwork. The calm comes from the use of deliberate intentional shapes and lines and solid flat colors creating a union with the disorder and chaos that’s found in the shear amount of shapes, lines and the intricacy of the layers that create depth within the painting. Carbrey spends most of his time making art, and living his life. He likes to start a painting work with only a faint idea as to what the end product will be.
