James W. Johnson (Born January 26, 1954) is an American artist who was born in Upstate New York where he was raised until 1978 when he moved to Lubbock, Texas. He earned his Master of Fine Art in 1981 from Texas Tech University, Lubbock. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the State University of New York in Oswego in1977. Johnson has contributed a lot to art. He has created two thousand paintings, sculptures, furniture pieces and other pieces of art. One of his notable accomplishments is when he co-won the William D Kerns Award for the Visual Arts in 2011 from the Louise Hopkins Underwood Center for the Arts. He has participated in over 170 competitions and exhibitions from 1981. Johnson has worked as a studio artist for 30 years. His art was featured on the cover of the New American Paintings in the 1998 issue and was praised. Johnson’s art comes in a variety of types. His medium includes painting, drawing, sculpture, etching, digital, mixed media, video, and furniture. Johnson’s newest art pieces show the connection between art and life. They hold depth and take the viewers to a different world filled with imagination and amazement. These magnificent works make the admirers of art interpret and understand different aspects of life. He says, “As an artist, I present my observations about life and art without regard for continuity of "style".” Johnson’s creative pieces are a true inspiration.
