Mark Lague (Born 1964) has been described as a painter of Light. He has developed an international acclaim and has won many awards, both in the United States and in his native Canada. Lague is a dedicated painter who was born in Quebec (Lachine) and he has had an attraction with art, especially drawing, since his childhood. After graduating from Concordia University in Montreal with a degree in Design, he embarked on a thirteen-year career in the industry of animation, working primarily as an art director and background designer. Despite working full time, during this time, he began receiving international recognition for his watercolor paintings through solo exhibitions, juried shows, and competitions. In 2000, the artist switched to oil as his primary and proffered medium, and two years later, he made the jump to full time painter.

In his art, he captures the spirit and energy of downtown. His viewers get captivated by the reflections of city lights at night, his exciting brush strokes and by wet pavement on a rainy day. He’s a realist and is open to virtually all subject matter. It’s hard to believe that at the beginning of his artistic career, he painted in an ultra realistic, highly detailed style. After years of painting at a major animation studio, mainly background designs, and after much experimentation, he in the end developed his distinguishing bold brush stroke. As an artist, what keeps him excited about his painting process is his unending quest to get to the essence of whatever he paints.
