Roy Martell Mason (Born 1886-1972) is a painter who was born in New York. He developed great interest and talent in outdoor sports, having been encouraged into it by his engraver father. Mason didn't have any formal training in an art institution except for a correspondence course. Nevertheless, he received informal training from a reputable landscape painter called Chauncey Ryder. It's his involvement in outdoor sports that later came to influence several of his artwork pieces. Mason’s in depth understanding of the outdoor and watercolor made it possible for him to create beautiful artwork that clearly depicted beautiful landscapes and wildlife paintings that appealed to people from all industries. It's through his national acclaim and the artistic appeal of his works that he gained a lot of commercial success, freeing him from the challenges of commissions. This also allowed him to concentrate on exploring his own subjects thus expanding his artistic understanding.

Mason painted the pristine American landscapes for 60 years, refining his artistic style and delivering his best, having been a hunter himself. His main media were watercolors and oil, delivering every art piece in creative patterns and discretely mixed colors. Mason’s artistic works were mainly influenced by those of Winslow Homer and Ryder, although he didn't quite copy directly from them, choosing instead to absorb their technique. In 1961, Mason won the highly regarded gold Medal of Honor of the American Watercolor Society. He exhibited his paintings widely in his local surroundings and also worked with national associations to reach his target audience.
