Nicolaes Visher (Born 1618) was born in Amsterdam. He died and was buried in Amsterdam (Nieuwezijds Kapel) in September 1679. He was a publisher, cartographer and engraver. Visscher was the son of Janszoon Claes Visher. He had a son called Nicolaes who also worked with him and after his death continued the family tradition of mapmaking. Visscher engraved double hemisphere map which became to be the primary source for producing some maps. The map, New World and Tabula, was created in 1658 in Amsterdam. In it, he also included smaller southern and northern polar projections. At it border there was a decoration which comprised of mythological scenes, with each corner having one, drawn by the painter Berchem Nicolaes, and showing Neptune, Zeus, Demeter and Persephone. New World and Tabula is an early example of exceedingly decorated Dutch world maps. Visscher art can be used to decorate any space; this gives the reason as to why they are popular with people from all walks of life and of all age brackets. The artist approached the painting surface with unclear expectations allowing the process to dictate the end result. Visscher would allow his painting materials to guide his every step until he obtained the final product. He plunged into the art world and within a short time he had managed to pull a huge following of fans. His fan base is still increasing even today and they are from all corners of the world. Many of his pieces of art have earned much popularity as poster and print reproductions.
