Karin Johannesson was born and raised in Waterloo, Ontario. She’s been painting and drawing all her life. Karin is a self-trained artist who’s guided by instinct. She uses mediums in unconventional and bold ways. Karin’s process is intuitive and spontaneous and she likes to work quickly so as to complete her paintings in one or two sittings. Karin was drawn to art at an early age. She comes from a family of watercolor artists, including artist Donald MacPherson based in Ireland. She’s very comfortable working in watercolor because of its ease of use and versatility. Karin is happy about the renewed popularity of watercolor in today’s art world. She’s inspired by the artistic talents of her sons who have taken after her. She’s influenced by a wide range of sources including popular culture, minimal abstract art and traditional Asian art. She loves to paint in many styles, for the most part in watercolor and also in acrylic ink.

She holds a Master of Science degree from D’Youville College, in Buffalo, New York. She’s exhibited at Spring Watercolor Exhibit, Tower Hill Botanic Garden, Art Investment Fund Sale, Kitchener, Canada (Ontario), Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery, Artcetera 2013, Elora, Ontario, Canada, Contemporary Watercolor Competition 2013, Royal Watercolor Society, Bankside Gallery, London, UK, Waterloo Community Arts Centre, and The Button Factory, Waterloo, Canada (Ontario), among others. Karin strives for a quality lifestyle, enriched through her work with outstanding images and astonishing image making ability. Her keenness to detail has earned her reputation among her fellow artists, and even among art students and teachers.
