Dave Gordon felt a strong attraction for the outdoors since his childhood. He was particularly attracted to woodlots, ponds and fields which then existed near his parents’ home. He liked to travel a lot and these trips introduced him to the wonders of nature and created within him a feeling of being at peace in the countryside. In his youth, he did not understand the attraction, but the feeling did and has nevertheless remained with him in his adulthood. He married a woman who had the foresight to help him realize what he needed. His wife enrolled him in a watercolor art class where he received constructive encouragement and learned basic techniques. He now works on his own at his home studio where he is still learning with each new painting.

He says that sometimes the lessons learned can be time consuming and painful, but they are still the best lessons learned. Gordon now enjoys being able to focus his attention entirely on his new creations, and he works full-time on his art. He draws his inspiration from Muskoka Lake areas and the Georgian Bay area, and it shows in many of his paintings of water scenes. Rural scenes are still his main focus; he likes to paint barns and farm houses, the fence rows which define the farms, the tractors which work the farms, and some relics from the past. He accepts commission work to capture his clients’ treasures in watercolor. His studio is open by appointment. It is located at his home in Acton, Ontario.
