Artist Laura Culver earned a Graphic Design degree from UC Davis. She grew up in Orinda, California. After graduation, she pursued a career path including art buying, stock photography and graphic design for an advertising agency. She liked to travel and moved a lot, mostly in the Western States. She returned home in 1999 and settled in San Rafael, California. After settling in San Rafael CA, she became a full-time artist in 2002 with her Hand-Colored award-winning Photography as a medium. Laura continues limited exhibits in this medium. Four years later, she stumbled on an oil painting class, and immediately fell in love with the creative, challenging process of outdoor (plein air) painting. Laura says that her goal is to see with her eyes and heart, and paint the landscape using the language of color and light. The balance between cool and warm is of utmost importance to her. She regularly exhibits in solo shows, juried competitions, and invitationals including MarinScapes, Bolinas Museum and West Marin Wild.

She’s a Guest Member of the Baywood Artists, and an Associate Member of the California Art Club. Laura embraces the Colorist approach. She has studied with the Marin Art School, Camille Przewodek, and many others. She teaches landscape oil painting in San Rafael at Rileystreet Art Supply. She’s affiliated to Colorists of Northern California, Art Works Downtown, Baywood Artists, California Art Club, Marin Conservation League, Sierra Club, Environmental Action Committee, Marin Agricultural Land Trust, and many others. Her art are in the collections of Peacock Gap Country Club, Law Office of Rachel Castrejon, First Federal Savings & Loan, SF, and Private Wealth Partners, Larkspur.
