Curt Crain is inspired by the world around her, the grace and beauty of everyday objects and events. He paints mostly in the impressionistic style. His art shows the influence of the American and European artists of the late 1840’s and has had a great impact on him. He says that painting in an impressionistic style makes sense for those who have been influenced by the European and American artists of this period. He enjoys working fast and thick, and deals with a variety of different subjects. But his favorite subjects include people, waterscapes, boats and flowers. He says it’s a privilege to be present, to observe and to paint what he has observed. He’s overwhelmed with joy and humbled when he paints. Most of his works are loosely painted, objective, but with autonomy taken on color and detail. He doesn’t over-complicate his work, but tries to say more with less.

His paintings are available for purchase and he is also available for commissioned work. He paints from nature, his studio or sailboat. He will paint almost anything; he just loves moving paint around. The artist is a native of Milwaukee, but he currently lives in Gills Rock and Whitefish Bay. Starting from a young age, he had a strong interest in painting and drawing. He studied fine art at Cardinal Stritch and UWM and continues to learn from “everything and everyone.” His paintings hang in commercial and private locations across the country. The artist invests himself in each scene, each canvas and each brushstroke.
