Shane Settle is a fine art photographer and is also a teacher. His love for art began as a student of journalism and continued to come into bud through college and now into his professional life. He tends to use a unique approach which is uncomplicated, and he relies on simplicity and patterns to induce an emotional viewing experience. Settle’s typical approach is to look for simple elements and patterns to photograph and to exclude the extraneous. His roots are grounded in black-and-white photography, although he also uses elements of color when an image is better expressed in color. Some of his favorite shooting conditions include cloudy weather, low light, or fog.
More often than not the kind of weather that makes one want to have a warm tea or coffee rather than be outside in the cold. Settle lives in Medford, OR with his wife and their awesome daughter. His wife was originally from Germany. Settle says he’s grateful to God and to his family for the experiences in his life and he uses photography as a way to express the vision of the world God has given his. It is his hope that his viewers can appreciate God's creation in a masterful, unique way. The conditions under which he shoots sometimes lend themselves to long shutter speeds. This he says reduces elements such as clouds and water to their simplest form and gives the images a painterly, almost ethereal feel.
