Matt Patterson was born and grew up in New Ipswich, NH. His father was a biology teacher and early on he got an exposure to all types of animals. And for as long as he can remember, he has always had the same two interests, animals (wildlife) and art. He loved the outdoors and in his free time he was either out searching for snakes and turtles, fishing, or he was painting. Even today, things haven’t changed much. He’s a professional artist and his work reflects his love for nature. He has caught alligators from a kayak all in the name of gathering reference for his illustrations. In this process he’s been bitten by snapping turtles but he has completed quite a number of work ranging from book and scientific illustration to wood carving and trompe l’oeil murals.

In 2010, his book titled “Freshwater Fish of the Northeast” won Artistic Merit category and the National Outdoor Book Awards Design. He has a book that was recently released on Amphibians and Reptiles titled The Snake and the Salamander Reptiles and Amphibians from Maine to Virginia. He says that this is a project that he’s very much excited about. He’s participated in many art exhibitions where his art has become the center of attraction. He has managed to receive positive criticism from professional art critics and has managed to attract a large fan base. His art has found its way into many top galleries and museums around the world. They are produced in a variety of finishing options.
