Unlike many artists, Sharon Chandler did not start painting at an early age. She did not even show any interest in painting, drawing or even doodling. She started art and a pastime while she was working with the Environmental Protection Agency, and was busy taking care of her family. She never had the intention of going commercial and didn’t even have time to share her art, except for the few that she gave out to her friends and family. Soon she realized that her art was drawing much attention and her interest in art started to grow. Sharon decided to study art under Ms. Dickerson Barb, an artist who has taught and painted for close to 20 years. After her training the quality of her art improved and she donated some artwork to the Heart for Art Auction and to the Art As Aid Auction. The proceeds went to the Heart Association, and to the Tsunami victims respectively.

Sharon paints in acrylics, oils, mixed media and pastel. Her goal has always been to have the viewer receive as much enjoyment in viewing her work as she has in creating it. Sharon’s work consists of abstract/abstract expressionism, realism and she has been known to use different methods and means to get the kind of art she wants. Sharon is now a middle school art teacher and she has come full circle. Her art fares well in art exhibitions where professional artists who have been in this field for several years also participate. She describes herself as a "late" bloomer, but is so impressed with the viewers’ response to her art.
