Peter Blackwell is an artist who was born in Kenya. He’s been intrigued by Africa's beautiful environments and its outstanding diversity all his life. Blackwell was raised in Northern Kenya on a remote farm. The African bush was his outdoor arena for learning and entertainment. He was formally educated in England, and this is where he received a degree in Graphic Design. The artist was keen to return to his roots in Africa to pursue a career that was not related to the advertising world, but a career that focused on the bushes and which continues on a longtime interest - that of wildlife painting. Primarily a self taught in the sphere of fine art, he built up a status as a watercolor bird specialist. He gained acclaim for his ability to bring to life the birds, with implausible distinctive detail, character interpretations, to iridescent and bold colors and the fine convoluted work of precise feathering. Eventually he started to include landscapes and animals as well as oils into his portfolio. He did all these with the same great care, gusto and independence as his bird pieces. Currently, he focuses his attention on all the aspects of the landscape in Africa. His originals in mixed mediums range from art only a few inches in dimensions to several feet in size. He spends many weeks in the bush, where he obtains the reference materials necessary to create his works, and also to study his subjects. He has been painting for more than thirty years.
