Cape Edwin (Born in 1968) was born in Tucson, Arizona. He lived in southern Arizona with his family and received a degree in Fine Arts from Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff. During his summer breaks from college, he used to work in Sedona at a local resort where he got inspiration from the red rock mountains hiking in the surrounding areas. He was so much attracted to these mountains that many of the natural colors of the mountains can still be seen in his paintings today. After his graduation from college, he moved to Portland, Oregon and stayed there for several years, but later decided to return to Sedona where he felt he was most inspired to paint. Edwin uses a high gloss finish to bring out the rich colors and texture that make his paintings so popular.

And he paints mostly abstracts in acrylics. He remembers every red rock that he has used to inspire his color and imagery in each of his paintings - though his paintings are not composed of obvious “Southwest” images. Sedona is also popular for its 4 vortexes, where unseen lines of power of the Earth allegedly intersect to form an energy field. Edwin has tried to capture the motion of this energy bouncing off the colors of the rocky landscape in many of his pieces. Edwin says that many people look at his paintings and see one thing or another, but few people know the truth behind his paintings. But then again, he guesses that that’s how it’s supposed to be. He believes that everyone should see what they want to see in a painting.
