J. B. Jeffrey (Born in 1953) is a California-based visual anthropologist, writer and designer. In his photography, he combines a painter’s sensitivity to light, color, and composition with an architect’s love of pattern, texture and geometry. Together with his partner, Sally Aberg, Jeffrey has authored two award winning books: Maya Color: The Painted Villages of Mesoamerica, and Mediterranean Color (both from Abbeville Press, New York). He spent a decade creating his series of photographs on the Mediterranean, which he collected in the book Mediterranean Color. After that, he began photographing throughout Central America and Mexico to document the traditions of the living Maya in the second book Maya Color. Jeffrey is the subject of an hour-long PBS/BBC documentary “For the Colors, A Journey Through Italy. His work is held in private and public collections worldwide and is represented by 10 fine art photography galleries across the country.

In April 2009, his work was featured in the inaugural issue of COLOR Magazine. Jeffrey recently voyaged to India, and this has made his latest work to depict the power and beauty of the colorful traditions of Indian architecture. Jeffrey’s extraordinarily vivid images are a testimony to his eye for composition and form. He has had several museum and gallery exhibitions, including at the Weston Gallery and at the Verve Gallery of Photography. Numerous works by Jeffrey have been sold at auction, including Chicua, Guatemala, 'Door with Speckled Hen, and at Christie's New York 'PHOTOGRAPHS.' He continues to travel and take stunning photographs.
