Judith Durr is a native of Arizona who was raised in the Southwest. She currently resides in Cave Creek with her husband Roger Kull who is also an artist. She creates her Southwestern oil paintings from respect for her Cherokee/Choctaw heritage. She preserves the legacy of the First People’s rugs and artifacts portrayed in her oil paintings. However, Judith paints artifacts from clans and tribes throughout the Americas. She captures the emotions of the viewer to achieve her objective which is illusion. Judith wants the viewer to want reach out to pick the kernels from the corn, to feel the smoothness of the pottery, the beadwork on the moccasins or the fabric of the rugs because they look real. She paints from her extensive collection of artifacts. Her distinctive style is unique with the use of a rug as consistent background element in each and every one of her still life paintings. Judith enjoys the stories about each artifact and their history.

Painting from life, each of her still life paintings are skillfully sketched and composed. Her challenge is to paint superior oil paintings. To accomplish the realism, she uses glazes and layers. Judith’s spectacular style, her exquisite oil paintings, and dedication to realism are internationally recognized. Her genre includes landscapes, Western Life, and historical research. Her Native American heritage is the inspiration for her still life oil paintings. She is a member of Southwestern Premier Artists, Oil Painters of America, and the Sonoran Arts League. She lectures for annual Native American art shows, universities elder hostels, museums, fine art councils, foreign exchange students programs, and many private organizations throughout the country.
