As the title suggests, the subject of this spiritual print is a shepherd living during Jesus’ time. He has the appearance of Christ with brown hair and beard, white flowing robe and a staff in his left hand. He is surrounded by his flock of multi colored sheep with white, black and brown coats. Three of the animals are resting on the ground by the Shepherd’s feet and the rest are standing in a group not far off. A woman dressed in red and cradling an infant is standing next to the man who is holding the baby’s hand. Two girls, one in a long blue dress and the other in a white one, are standing on either side of the couple. A young boy is seated on the ground and is looking up at the family. The land is dry and arid. Sheri Lynn Boyer Doty has used a colored pencil technique to create this classic and very realistic print of rural life during the time of our Lord.
