Description:
Like most of the dancers in Degas's works, these ballerinas are not performing. Although Degas enjoyed painting and sketching the dancers in performance, he more so found enjoyment in capturing the most normal of and unglamorous moments more. This is also reflected in his paintings of women in the bath. Those images as well were often unflattering and unglamorous.
